The Client:
An information services, news and media company that serves customers around the world with a combination of data, analytics, electronic trading and straight-through processing tools, all within a single platform. With a niche in delivering financial services, the company has global news, television, radio, Internet, and magazine and book publishing operations.
The Issue:
A cracker compromised the client. Various data was stolen including the CEO's personal credit card information. The “Attacker” then tried to blackmail the organization for $250,000.00. The client recognized and requested a better security solution to protect internal information. Given the nature of their business they needed security without impediment on performance.
The Technical Challenge:
Design and implement an access control security solution that is secure and has the capacity to meet the client's high-performance network infrastructure without introducing any additional latency and throughput constraints.
The igxglobal Solution:
igxglobal analyzed and pointed out some inadequacies in both the technical and process components of the client's existing access control security solution. Several weaknesses were identified in the areas of both security and performance. It seems that the client's existing solution did not meet their security or performance requirements in the way that they had expected it would of.
igxglobal worked with the client to evaluate an ASIC based access control security technology. The evaluation process included conveying and getting agreement on certain security philosophies, then developing a process for implementing those philosophies without any system impact.
Upon agreement igxglobal implemented a test lab that emulated the client's production environment. The reaction to various attacks, which included compromises, denial of service and scans were observed while the devices were under heavy traffic conditions.
The devices performed exactly as advertised in all but one scenario. igxglobal worked quickly with the device manufacturer to address the fault and had a solution in hand in less than seven days. The client’s evaluation group scrutinized and documented all behavior closely. The client gave the go-ahead for the implementation at a single new facility. The implementation went flawlessly. Post implementation, the client has standardized on the security device recommended and is working closely with igxglobal to convert existing facilities to the same platform.
The Result:
The results of the test were significantly better security, better performance, lower cost of ownership, and a solution designed from features that worked as advertised.
